Take a trip down memory lane by reading about and rewatching these swoon-worthy romantic comedies!

(this is my take at content creation- a personal blog sharing all my favorite things)

Like many of you, I consider myself a romantic comedy movie enthusiast. I grew up watching them with my mom and with my friends in high school. We swooned over stars Matthew McConnaughey, Patrick Dempsey, and Ryan Reynolds, laughed at their awkward moments and awaited the ultimate kiss scene at the end. There’s something about rom-coms that remind us of the joy, the fun, the awkwardness, and the humor of falling in love. We all hope for the happy ending that our beloved characters have. I mean, what girl wouldn’t want a handsome man chasing her down in an airport, just to declare his love?

With that being said, I thought it was only fitting to create my own list of can’t miss rom-coms, complete with movie posters made by yours truly. Enjoy!

10. Just Like Heaven

ree

This rom-com is seriously underrated. Our main characters both find the hope and healing they need when Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon) shows up as an intruder in David's (Mark Ruffalo) apartment. After multiple unwanted run-ins, he realizes there's something... ghostly about Elizabeth, and learns that Elizabeth is in fact in a coma and (almost, but not quite) dead to the world. Banding together to find answers, they realize that they are the only ones who truly understand each other (never mind that he's literally the only person that can see her ghost.) The movie is even topped off with a dramatic kiss in a dreamy rooftop garden.

9. Never Been Kissed
ree

Josie (Drew Barrymore) is the high school outcast who gets another shot at what she always wanted- being popular- by going undercover as a high school student to land her dream job. Things get interesting- and more complicated- when she falls for the cute English teacher, especially when she's trying to convince everyone she's 17. Don't worry though- she comes clean, at the prom of all places, writes the smashing article she set out to do, and helps her brother live his unfulfilled dreams too. And- happy to say that she finally does get that kiss.

8. The Holiday
ree

One international house swap, two charming love stories, four dazzling personalities- the makings of a holiday rom-com staple. Here’s to finding yourself and the love of your life in the place you’d least expect it- and spending the holidays with each other for the rest of your life.

7. Sweet Home Alabama

ree

Melanie (Reese Witherspoon), New York’s newest darling, has to go back home and face her messy past, which includes a stubborn husband who never signed their divorce papers. Things start out rocky as she deals with Jake's (Josh Perry), her parents, and old friends' antics, but she can't deny her hometown's Southern charm, and can't help but wondering if her decision to leave was the right one. Never mind that she’s got a dashing fiancé waiting for her back in New York- the heart wants what it wants, and sometimes you just never get over your first love. Big bonus points for a dazzling kiss in the rain.

6. How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days

ree

Overconfident, charismatic Ben (Matthew McConnaughey) strikes a bet with a client promising him he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days, and soon after he meets Andie, the perfect woman for his experiment. Except what he doesn't know is that Andie has made a bet herself: and it's for getting a man to break up with her in ten days. What ensues next is a whole lot of witty banter, cringe-worthy moments, insane chemistry, and an epic karaoke battle. Who will win their bet? And what will happen when they both find out about the other's true motives? Watch to find out!

5. 13 Going On 30

ree

This charming, feel-good film brings the right amount of spunk and the innocence of girlhood to the hustle and bustle of New York City. Jenna Rink's (Jennifer Garner) world is turned upside down when she wakes up 17 years older, with a real job and a real boyfriend. It seems she's gotten the life she's always dreamed of except when she realizes life isn't all that great when it's not shared with the ones you love. Perfect for a girls night- it's about staying true to who you are and looking at the world with the hope of young eyes. Plus, Mark Ruffalo is absolutely adorable with a camera.

4. The Wedding Planner

ree

Love is never convenient- especially when the person you are falling for is not only engaged, but having their wedding planned by you. Mary (Jennifer Lopez) struggles to fight feelings for Steve (Matthew McConnaughey), who so dashingly saved her from being hit by a car. The horseback riding, the movies and dancing in the park don't help either. Mary wonders if her true love has walked into her life, right before losing him forever to another woman. This film pulls at the heartstrings of anyone who has wondered if true love it truly meant for them, or if it's worth fighting for, despite the roadblocks.

3. While You Were Sleeping

ree

As one of the early additions in the golden age of rom coms, this movie stands out for Lucy (Sandra Bullock) and Jack's (Bill Pullman) simple and innocent love story, and for the lovable, funny Callaghan family. Sweet Lucy, who finds herself falsely engaged to a man in a coma, falls for the man she least expected- his brother. Unfortunately, she can't seem to find a good moment to tell him and his family the truth. It only takes a declaration of her love at the altar, about to wed the wrong man, for Jack to come running after her. Everything works out in the end- and she finally gets a stamp in her passport.

2. Hitch

ree

This movie makes the top two for being downright funny. It is an ode to all the underdogs, showing us that the world of dating and love is as unpredictable as it is hilarious. Guys like Albert Brennaman (Kevin James) can't score girls like Allegra Cole- at least not without the help of the date doctor, Alex Hitchins (Will Smith). When Albert enlists Hitch's help to win over the girl of his dreams, they both realize that true love can't be planned, and that sometimes, it takes a little spontaneity to make it happen. Also, beware of unexpected allergic reactions to raw fish on a date.

1. The Proposal
ree

Coming in hot at number one. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are the power couple we never knew we needed. Margaret (Bullock), Andrew's (Reynolds) evil boss, forces him into a fake engagement to avoid an untimely deportment to Canada. Together, they head to Andrew's hometown for the weekend as a "couple" to meet the family. There must be something in the Alaskan air can turn even the bitterest enemies to lovers, and it's enough to make any viewer fall in love with Margaret, Andrew, and Gammy.

What did you think of my top ten picks? Let me know if there are any rom coms that should have been included/taken out! If there are any that you haven't seen, go pop some popcorn, curl up on the couch, turn down the lights and enjoy! Promise you won't be disappointed. Happy watching ;)
